Replenish the Well: Why Monthly Giving Matters

By: Alia Peera

As the year winds down and the season of giving approaches, many of us reflect on how we can give back. People often ask themselves: “How much should I give?” When it comes to an amount, one of my mentors shared a simple, but wise approach: “Make it a meaningful gift.” What feels meaningful is deeply personal—only you can determine what resonates for you. In addition to “how much” I would also invite a different question when considering supporting a mission that you feel passionately about – how often?

Ultimately, as folks who care deeply about a mission that aligns to ours values, the real question we should be asking is–what would be the most powerful way for me to make an impact?

For us at The Teaching Well, support comes in many different forms, but the ones that feel most containing are the ones that we can consistently count on—whether it is a major recurring gift from a foundation, or a small but meaningful monthly donation from a former teacher, we are so appreciative of the continuous care that we receive from supporters year-round.

Thinking about the power of consistency takes me back to my days in the classroom…

Every morning, my co-teacher Ms. Simms and I would sit together for breakfast and coffee before our busy day with students. That small ritual became essential to our well-being. Even after I left teaching, Ms. Simms kept calling me every morning. Sure, I’d be rushing through my morning routine, barely paying attention, but hearing her voice each day kept me grounded  in a way that I didn’t fully realize at the time. Knowing someone was consistently there made all the difference.

Monthly giving is similar– it’s a steady reminder that someone cares. A regular donation, no matter the amount, tells an organization: "I see you. I believe in your mission, and I’ll walk alongside you—even when it gets tough."

Why Monthly Gifts Matter

At The Teaching Well, monthly support ensures that teachers and principals feel seen, cared for, and equipped to care for themselves. Ongoing donations literally help us provide regular touchpoints to educators, illustrating that we care about them, like through the Mindful Mentoring Sessions we offer teachers. Because of monthly donors, our educators aren’t just avoiding burnout—they are building sustainable practices to thrive. Ultimately, that means they can better support the students they serve.

We are proud of the impact we’ve made so far—retaining an average of 85% of teachers at our partner schools (compared to the national average of 71% in high-needs schools) and saving schools $5.6 million in recruitment and hiring costs. However, to continue expanding this work, we need ongoing support. Here are a few more reasons why monthly gifts make a huge difference to us at The Teaching Well.

  • Sustained Impact: Monthly gifts offer consistent funding that allows us to plan ahead and offer uninterrupted support, even during slow fundraising periods. Even the smaller gifts add up over time, which have a great impact on the organization, and as a regular member of our community you’ll get to witness the impact alongside us.

  • Community Building: By giving monthly, you become part of a community of supporters committed to transforming education. We’ve also launched new TTW Insider perks for our community members, including early access to events, mindfulness tools, swag, and more.

  • Ease and Flexibility: A monthly gift offers financial flexibility. You can set it and forget it, and you are in control, with the option to adjust your gift anytime.
