Clinical Therapy (California only)

The Teaching Well’s Clinical Therapy services offer educators the critical care that they need in moments of personal or community crisis.

The goal is to prevent and heal employment trauma that leads to attrition. Whether it’s a personal loss, the passing of a student or colleague, a violent threat on your campus, a racially charged or discriminatory incident, or deep employee burnout, TTW’s licensed therapists provide high-touch support. These somatically-oriented counseling sessions with a school-based Teaching Well-trained therapist are a retention intervention in tough times.

Services We Provide

  • Individual Therapy

  • Group Therapy

  • Grief & Loss Circles

  • Healing-Centered Staff PDs

*Both individual and group clinical therapy follow an 8-week brief cycle via Telehealth; whereas, circles & PDs can be in person. Please note that clinical services can only be rendered in the state of California.

What are circumstances or topics that a client might explore in TTW therapy?

  1. Preventing and healing employment traumas (i.e. unpacking direct or vicarious trauma stemming from a work crisis)

  2. Grief and loss incidents typically pushed aside in work (i.e. loss of a student or colleague, reproductive loss)

  3. Anxiety related to school or community threats or violence

  4. Treating the 5 symptoms of burnout: helplessness, cynicism, sense of failure or self-doubt, decreased satisfaction/motivation, feeling detached or alone in the world

  5. Lack of belonging or forming healthy relationships, especially related to a marginalized identity

  6. Inability to access support from within or navigate more intensive interventions via medical benefits

  7. Frequent struggles with feeling ready to go to work; chronic absenteeism

  8. Self-harming behaviors (past or present)

Sometimes issues that are beyond our scope are brought to us as part of our services, including therapy, and while we welcome expression around those topics, our staff will likely invite you towards continued care with an expert who specializes in the support you deserve. The Teaching Well’s clinical program does not specialize in:

·       Psychosis, including symptoms of hallucinations

·       Eating disorders

·       Substance abuse

·       Homicidality

“I wasn’t sure if I would make it back to the classroom after I miscarried, especially because of the waitlist for clinical help through my benefits. Through the brief therapy cycle with The Teaching Well, I was able to heal and return to my students.”
